a pyre burns brightest
A pyre burns brightest from a distance (so let’s travel to the moon) (2014-current)
A road map to non –space, place, and landscape
Total km traveled: 385,000km
This project explores the experience of traveling through cyber-spaces using precise geographic measurements and locations, abstract destinations and self-conscious mental exercises. It is meant to re-invest the individual in the depersonalizing affect of the space-simulating technology of Google Maps through a spontaneous order and instructions, the idea of play, and a lack of a true beginning and ending point. This is done to challenge the disembodied, detemporalized, condensing, and necessarily (ex)spectative encounter with virtual representations of space and global navigation.
The pages of the roadmap included here can be 'traveled' in any order. The project will reach completion when the total distance traveled between these sites as listed in the order specified to the left reaches 385,000 km, or the approximate distance between Earth and the Moon (2014).
(1). On a good day, the Moon is 384,403 km from the surface of planet Earth.
